Perspective

One thing has been bugging me for days. Someone wrote how the greatest sign of being closed-minded is thinking that your perspective is the only one that’s correct. Which, of course is true, but does this apply to people who always think they are right?

There are two sides to a story is not said without a reason. Maybe we are all right because we think our perspective is the only one that’s acceptable. But where do we draw the line? Do we use our internal moral compass to navigate right and wrong, evil and good, or do we simply use our head and bruised ego to make a statement?

I have a theory that all of us are a villain in someone’s story. It’s impossible to always be the victim, it’s impossible to always be the one who is right and everyone else is simply mean. I do agree that some people go through certain situations and they may not always be the winner, but again, we are all a villain in someone’s story. I can almost pinpoint all the times I was being unfair to others and also to myself. It caused me a certain amount of regret and grief, but I realized that these things are a minority when it comes to other good things I did and try to do. I can equally dissect myself for good and bad things. Mostly bad things. I guess people who overthink cannot possibly be bad. Because if you overthink, it means you are usually considerate.

And you may ask what about people who always think they are right? Well, I think these people are severely out of touch with themselves. There must be something deep inside that hurts you so bad that you think that only you are right. That only you have a correct perspective. These people lack vision. If I cannot understand where you are coming from, how can I even understand myself?

But does it take certain amount of self-reflection to actually realize that you did someone wrong? That you have been unfair, cold or simply a bitch? Yes, it does. Sometimes it comes instantly, sometimes it takes years. You may cringe at the thought of it, you may regret and feel pain, but it’s important to rip that band aid off. We need to hold ourselves accountable and take the responsibility for our words and actions.

Also, it’s important not to tear yourself apart. We are human, we make mistakes, it’s important to recognize when we were the villain, seek forgiveness if you can and if not forgive yourself for being a bitch. We are not the same person every day. Many, many things affect us daily, but that shouldn’t be an excuse to mistreat others. Knowing when to remain silent is a talent. Thinking before speaking is vital in most situations. And most importantly, consulting our inner compass is essential. Cause we know when we did something wrong. We know when we behaved like an evil creature. We always know.

Maybe this world needs a little bit more of a self-reflection and a little bit less self-obsession.
