Humans

I always said and I will always say it: humans are the endless inspiration for me and are also making me sick at the same time. I live on both ends of this scale, daily. Sometimes I find humans so cute, so inspiring, their little stories make me cry, laugh and they make me intrigued, but humans are cruel and that makes me sick to my stomach.

Do you ever think about how each and every one of us has their own little worlds, stories, internal dialogues (and recently I read somewhere that not everyone has those, you lucky bastards), their own dreams, hopes, pain, scars, fears and personal hell. And most humans learn how to navigate these tough waters. I mean it’s not easy out here, everyone is trying to survive and push through. I’m certain that most of us feel like we are drowning lately. And imagine how kind, beautiful and emphatic these humans can be, how their kindness moves mountains, how they stand up for themselves, their friend and how they stand tall in solidarity. How they fight for equality across the globe, how they take care of children, how they treat animals with kindness and empathy. And how they respect the Earth and nature that gave us so much. Of course this is inspiring, of course it makes you cry when you see heartwarming videos, when you read beautiful stories, of course inventions leave you speechless. And how can you not like humans?

But then, the dark, evil, cruel side of humans emerges. The one we look away from, the one we ignore and pretend it’s going to disappear because we are not looking that way, we don’t want to say anything because it’s not my circus, not my monkeys. We don’t want to call out bad behaviour, because who are we to judge? We are scared to talk about injustice and pain that’s being inflicted on all of us. Humans share the same energy, that’s why you can understand and empathize with another human being. So, don’t tell me you can’t sense evil and cruel energy, don’t tell me you can’t feel the pain of the oppressed. Don’t you dare tell me your blood doesn’t boil when you hear or read about evil humans hurting animals and children, destroying nature and everything beautiful we have. It makes me regret being a human, I don’t want to share the same ancestral code with creatures like that, I don’t want to breathe the same air as they do, when they don’t deserve to be a part of this world. It makes me sick to my stomach.

If we don’t hold them accountable, who will? If we don’t speak up, who will? If men don’t hold other men accountable for the nasty things they do to women, children and animals, who will? Women are speaking up, but men ignore. This system hurts us all. Once we understand that, things can begin to change. As long as we turn our heads the other way, we are going to continue to suffer. I know we often say: Oh, but what can I do as an individual? Nothing! You can do and a lot. You can start by calling out your friends or colleagues when they are being mean. You can start by doing small things day by day, feeding a stray animal, donating, sharing, doing anything to raise the awareness for any problem we are facing in this neck-deep quicksand we live in. You can change the world by changing your own programming, your own fears and limiting beliefs. And once you do, you are going to attract likeminded people who would want to work with you and then you will help them change something and they will continue the chain. Change starts with us. And within us. There is no other way.

I don’t know who gave us the right to plant the seeds of suffering. I don’t know who we think we are, but we are certainly very self-centred species that makes so much mess. Who knows where we might end up, but by the looks of it, it’s not going to be pretty.
