There is something that has always tickled my brain and it has a lot to do with how we celebrate others and what do we feel when we do. It’s the feeling of pure happiness and support towards the other but it’s also an achy feeling because you can’t help but wonder what are you doing wrong?
Now, some might say that you are jealous and can’t clap for others, but I think it’s not envy, not jealousy, and certainly not anything malicious, it’s just you wondering when is your turn. Is it selfish? Yes, a bit. Does it mean you are not happy for others and can’t clap for them, cheer them on and support them? Absolutely not! Sometimes it can mean that you have been waiting for your turn for a very long time, so you are just asking yourself when it will be your turn.
I highly doubt that anyone would say this out loud, and I’m sure there are a lot of people who are feeling it, but they would label it as jealousy and envy and just dismiss it. I don’t think it’s a bad thing. We all have unique paths, unique wishes and dreams, why would wanting your dreams to come true mean you are envious of someone else’s? For example, many people I love, gave me wonderful news this year and I’m so happy for them, but their wishes are different than mine. They dream of marriage, children, family life. My dreams are nothing like that, so why would their dreams make me jealous? Even if someone has similar dreams to mine, it still doesn’t make me envious, but it makes me wonder the same thing; when the hell it will be my turn, I work so hard too.
I think it’s very important to be happy for others, to cheer and support them. It’s what truly matters. What also matters is wondering when can you achieve your goals. One doesn’t cancel the other. I think that achievements of others remind us that we have our own dreams and that’s why we have that slow, sort of a sinking feeling besides being happy for our loved ones. Someone making their dreams come true could never hinder my growth, could never affect me in a negative way. I can only be happy, celebrate them and focus harder to achieve my dreams. Personally, it motivates me to focus on what I want.
So, as I said, it’s not a bad thing. If you are feeling it, you are not alone. If you are feeling it, it’s not jealousy. You are a human who has so many beautiful dreams and it’s only natural to ask when will you make them true without it turning malicious towards others.
